How to Boost the Kerb Appeal of your Home

First impressions count, so make sure the exterior of your home is as appealing as the interior with these top tips.

How to Boost the Kerb Appeal of your Home

Make an Entrance

As your front door is such a focal point for the exterior of your home, you’ll want to ensure it looks its best.

You may decide to replace your door completely when you put your home up on the market if it is dated or damaged. If you have a plastic or composite door, consider cleaning them with specialist products. Wooden doors can be freshened up with a lick of paint, or why not change the colour of your front door completely.

Check your doorbell is in working condition if you have one, as it doesn’t give the best first impression if it is broken. Polish up hardwares, and why not add a new knocker or letterbox to give the outside of your property a facelift?

Plant Some Life

Adding an array of beautiful flowers and plants can really enhance the look of your property. You could add hanging baskets to the entrance way, or potted flowers on the front doorstep.

If you have a grass lawn, keep it neat and tidy along with any bushes or shrubbery. Keeping on top of your garden will instantly show prospective buyers how much you love living in the property.

Clean, Clean, Clean

Have your local window cleaning service keep on top of your windows so they are looking their best, and try to keep on top of the inside of your windows too by giving them a regular clean.

Dirt can build up around the window frames too, so if you can, give them a wash to remove any grime. By keeping your windows clean, your property will let more light in and brighten up the rooms in your home.

Hide the Bins

Wheelie bins lined up outside your home are never going to look appealing, especially if they are damaged. You can ask your local council to replace them, or consider adding a bin storage to the outside of your home.

If you have the space, consider moving the wheelie bins to the side of your home where they won’t draw as much attention.

Sweep Away the Debris

Leaves and debris can build up outside the home, especially if you have a lot of plants and trees nearby.

Before any viewings, try to take the time to sweep the outside of your home and pick up any rubbish that may have blown into your garden. When a viewing is booked in, it can be easy to forget the outside of the house, but it may be the first thing that catches their attention.

Drives and Paths

Depending on what type of driveway and paths you have, depends on how much upkeep they will need.
If the outside of your home is mostly gravel, try to pull out any weeds that have appeared and sweep up any loose pieces. If you have a paved or concrete driveway, it will make a huge difference if you can spray the area with a powerful jet wash. Any patios or decking will benefit from being scrubbed down to remove moss and dirt.
