Property Information

Hillbrook is steeped in Holywood history. The property dates back to 1852 when William Bankhead Esquire commissioned architect Thomas Turner to design a mansion. The property was completed as a pair of semi detached villas in 1854. It is documented in John McConnell Auld's book, Forgotten Houses of Holywood, County Down, who was incidentally a neighbour residing in a bungalow in Victoria Road. It is recorded that Hillbrook may have been used as a school at one point as well as a family home for notable Holywood entrepreneurs including Claude Henfrey - Cream Manufacturer, who introduced Choc Ices to Ireland. In 1888 the Ladies Branch of the Royal Belfast Golf Club was founded in a meeting in Hillbrook when it was the home of Mrs R Young.
Today the neo classical family residence boasts many of the period features associated with properties of this era, including ornate high cornice ceilings, whilst benefitting from a kitchen extension with French doors opening to the rear gardens. It enjoys beautifully bright and generously proportioned accommodations over three levels. Traditional values and period features combine with an enhanced modern day layout to principal rooms, first floor wet room and second floor family bathroom. There is also a walk-in pantry, boot room and WC to the ground floor. Of particular note is the gracious drawing room with bay window and magnificent fireplace. The kitchen is hand crafted with a range of integrated appliances, island unit and range cooker. It opens to ample dining and living space leading to the gardens. The property boasts a five bedroom layout or four bedrooms and home study. The grounds provide ample parking to the gravel driveway and mature gardens to side and rear, beautifully landscaped with pathways and patios. A sheltered courtyard patio to the rear of the property provides the ideal space for outdoor entertaining and enjoying the afternoon sun. A large detached double garage provides the ideal studio apartment/consulting rooms above accessed via an external staircase to the rear. The property is approached off Victoria Road, along Victoria Lane and through double gates.
The location of this property provides ease of access for the city commuter via both road and rail. The property lies within walking distance of Holywood's vibrant and bustling High Street whilst remaining within the catchment area to a range of local primary and grammar schools and only fifteen minutes' drive of central Belfast and ten minutes' drive of the George Best Belfast City Airport.
